The men whose names were not immediately available, were said to have taken bank loan ahead of the current farming season but after watching their efforts swept away by the flood and sensing that they might be unable to repay the loan, decided to commit suicide.

Other communities ravaged by the flood are Orom Etiti, Iyiora, Umueze Anam, Umuoba Anam and Umuenwelum.

About two hundred and eighty (280) buildings were submerged by the flood.

Many residents are also understood to have relocated to neighbouring communities to save their lives, while some have suspended farming.

Some residents attributed the flood to sudden surge of the River Niger and its tributary Anambra River.

Victor Okoye who represents Anambra West in the state House of Assembly confirmed the incident and said scores of his constituents now live in fear.

The lawmaker said this  yesterday in Awka that the flood was not good for farming.

A community leader, Mr Nwabunwanne Chife said over N25milliom worth of crops have been lost to the disaster.
