President Donald Trump has enacted an executive order prohibiting transgender girls and women from participating in female sports teams. Signed at the White House on February 5, 2025, the order, titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” was endorsed by numerous children and female athletes.
Trump declared, “From now on, women’s sports will be only for women. With this executive order, the war on women’s sports is over.” He emphasized the administration’s commitment to upholding the integrity of female athletics and warned that institutions allowing transgender women to compete or access female locker rooms would face federal investigations and potential withdrawal of funding.
The President also announced plans to urge the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to revise its policies on transgender athletes ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Games. He has directed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to communicate to the IOC the U.S. government’s stance on this issue. Additionally, Homeland Security Chief Kristi Noem has been instructed to deny visa applications from individuals attempting to enter the U.S. under a gender identity that does not align with their biological sex for athletic competitions.
This executive order aligns with Trump’s earlier declaration during his inauguration that the U.S. government would recognize only two genders, male and female, thereby discontinuing the provision of a third gender option in certain contexts
