Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago failed a food safety inspection in late 2025 after health inspectors identified several violations in its kitchen and food preparation facilities.
Records from the Chicago Department of Public Health show that the hotel’s main kitchen, its room service operations, and the on-site restaurant Terrace 16 did not pass an inspection conducted on December 17, 2025.
During the inspection, officials reportedly found multiple sanitation and food safety concerns. These included the presence of small insects in the bar and dishwashing areas, a dishwashing machine that was not properly sanitising equipment, and a preparation sink that was draining wastewater directly onto the floor.
Inspectors also raised concerns about how food was being stored. Some perishable items were allegedly kept at temperatures higher than recommended safety limits, while certain raw shellfish were missing required sell-by or serve-by labels needed for proper food safety tracking.
Other violations cited in the report included a cracked lid on an ice machine, residue buildup inside a preparation cooler, and debris collecting on the floor underneath a sink.
The property, which belongs to the business empire of Donald Trump, later underwent another inspection. According to records, the hotel successfully passed the follow-up inspection the next week after correcting the issues identified by health officials.
At the time reports about the failed inspection surfaced, representatives of the hotel had not publicly commented on the findings.
