President-elect Donald Trump has appointed tech mogul Elon Musk to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, according to a statement released by Trump on Tuesday.
Joining Musk in this role is Vivek Ramaswamy, described by Trump as a “true American patriot.” Together, they are expected to guide the department in streamlining government functions.
Trump expressed that the combined leadership of Musk and Ramaswamy will support his administration’s goals of reducing bureaucracy, eliminating excessive regulations, curbing wasteful spending, and restructuring federal agencies.
Commonly referred to as DOGE, the department will collaborate closely with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget. The aim, Trump said, is to “drive large-scale structural reform” and bring an innovative, entrepreneurial approach to federal government operations.
He noted that Musk’s leadership is also expected to help uncover and eliminate widespread waste and fraud in the government’s annual $6.5 trillion expenditure.
Trump stated, “I am pleased to announce that the great Elon Musk, alongside American patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will head the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). These two exceptional Americans will be instrumental in our mission to dismantle government bureaucracy, reduce excessive regulations, cut wasteful spending, and overhaul federal agencies — crucial elements of the ‘Save America’ movement.”
