Over 500 illegal immigrants have been arrested and deported in a large-scale operation conducted by United States authorities.
The announcement was made on Thursday by President Donald Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt.
This sweeping operation comes just days into Trump’s second term in office.
“The Trump Administration has arrested 538 illegal immigrant criminals,” Leavitt stated. “The largest deportation operation in history is now underway. Promises made, promises kept.”
Earlier reports from Naijalog highlighted Trump’s campaign pledge to crack down on illegal immigration. Since beginning his second term, the President has issued a series of executive orders aimed at revamping U.S. immigration policies.
Trump has also declared a “national emergency” at the southern border, increased troop deployments to the region, and reaffirmed his commitment to deporting “criminal aliens.”
