General Brice Oligui Nguema has been named the “Transitional President” of Gabon by the soldiers who executed the military coup that forced President Ali Bongo out of office.
General Nguema commanded the Republican Guard of Gabon, which was instrumental in planning the coup that ousted the democratically elected President Ali Bongo, according to a Newsmen article.

The recent Gabonese general elections, which saw President Bongo re-elected, were annulled by senior military leaders implicated in the coup. They justified their involvement on the grounds that the election had been tainted by irregularities and in the best interests of the Gabonese people.

The recent military coup in Gabon, where President Ali Bongo was overthrown, was discussed by Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
