In a car accident on the Ibadan-Oyo Expressway, at least six people have been confirmed deceased, while 14 others have suffered serious injuries.
According to reports, the collision involved an 18-passenger white Toyota Hummer bus with the license plate Lagos JJJ 941 XA on Saturday, June 17.
According to eyewitness accounts, the bus was traveling at a fast pace when it developed a flat tire and lost control near the renowned Akinyele market in the Akinyele Local Government of Ibadan, according to Punch.
Four persons had already passed away when they reached at the scene of the collision, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) unit commander Bayode Olugbesan, who confirmed the tragedy.
According to him, the wounded passengers were sent right away to the state general hospital for treatment.
The unit commander also verified that overloading and speeding were to blame for the tragedy, which involved an 18-seater bus and 20 passengers.
Olugbesan was quoted by Vanguard as saying:
“All the victims are male and their destination is North. The cause of the crash was speeding and overloading. The bus was supposed to carry 14 passengers but was loaded with 20 passengers.”
He confirmed that the bodies of the deceased had been moved to the mortuary as he cautioned drivers and commuters to avoid speeding, overloading, and night traveling.
Similarly, the general hospital where the injured passengers were rushed confirmed the demise of two passengers.
The senior medical personnel said:
“The road safety officials brought 15 victims (injured ones) to the hospital, but two of them have given up the ghost after we administered first aid on them.”
