Toyin Abraham, a well-known Nollywood actress, has revealed that publicly supporting Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the last presidential election had negative consequences for her.
The actress made the remark while offering advice to fellow actor Timini Egbuson on how to achieve strong box office success with his films.
During the discussion, Toyin cautioned Timini against publicly aligning with any political figure, suggesting that staying neutral is safer for celebrities.
She said: “The first advice I will give you in my entire life is don’t put your mouth in politics. Don’t tell them you’re supporting anybody. Don’t support anybody, just be on your own. Be neutral.”
When Timini pointed out that she had openly supported Tinubu during the previous election, Toyin responded: “That was then.”
She later admitted that her political stance affected her career, exclaiming: “Haaaaaaa, it affected me oooo.”
According to reports by Daily Post Nigeria, Toyin Abraham had earlier spoken out in early 2024 after her movie Ijakumo (Born-Again Stripper) was allegedly circulated illegally on WhatsApp.
While reacting to criticism surrounding the film, the actress said: “You all will tell the world why choosing my own candidate is a crime and yours is not.”
Her comments came after some social media users vowed to boycott the movie because of her campaign support for Tinubu during the election.
