Tonto Dikeh has returned to Junior Secondary School Durumi II to fulfil her promise of supporting a student’s education from JSS1 through university.
The Nollywood actress had earlier visited the school on March 6 for an evangelism outreach with her team. During the visit, she conducted a deliverance session involving a schoolgirl, a moment that later went viral online and drew significant criticism from some social media users.
Despite the backlash, the actress announced that she would sponsor the education of a young boy she encountered during the outreach.
While explaining the reason behind her decision on Instagram, Dikeh said she felt spiritually moved to support the boy’s future and committed herself to covering his education from junior secondary school all the way to university.
She wrote, “As we prayed with the students and listened to their struggles, God directed my attention to a young boy. In my spirit I heard, ‘I have chosen him for signs and wonders.’ Immediately, I aligned myself with what God had spoken over his life.”
On Monday, the actress returned to the Abuja school with her team to honour the pledge. She settled the student’s school fees and also provided him with essentials such as school bags, sandals, and other supplies.
Dikeh also extended support to the boy’s father, a widower responsible for raising three children alone. She gifted him ₦1,000,000 to help him start a small business so he could better provide for his family.
She added, “While speaking with his father, I felt led to do more. I helped him start a small business he had always hoped to venture into with the sum of ₦1,000,000, so he can provide for his family with dignity and stability.”
Beyond helping the student and his father, the actress also announced support for the school itself by ordering ten laptops to help improve digital learning for students.
She stated, “We are not stopping there, we have just ordered for 10 laptops for the school to enable them teach & enhance their students digitally.”
