Media personality and entrepreneur Toke Makinwa has addressed common societal misconceptions that single individuals are lonely or unhappy.
The former OAP, whose recent Thanksgiving celebration was mistakenly rumored to be an engagement, shared her perspective on singlehood and its misrepresentation.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Makinwa emphasized that life doesn’t revolve around relationships and rejected the notion that being single automatically equates to loneliness.
“Some people assume all single individuals are lonely—it’s far from the truth. You’d be surprised at how content and happy single people can be. Don’t get me wrong, sharing life with someone is great, but without personal purpose, you can still feel lonely even in a relationship,” she wrote.
Makinwa also highlighted the importance of self-fulfillment over societal pressures to pair up. She urged a shift in mindset as the new year approaches:
“Let’s leave the belief that single people are miserable, lonely, or sad behind in 2024. Many individuals in toxic situations secretly wish they were single. Let people live their lives.”
Her remarks have sparked widespread conversations online, challenging the stigma associated with being single and promoting a more balanced view of relationships and independence.
