World record holder and Nigerian sprint sensation, Tobi Amusan, fell short of reaching the 100m hurdles final at the Paris Olympics, finishing third in the first semi-final with a time of 12.55 seconds. Her advancement to the final was uncertain as she awaited the results of the other semi-finals. However, her hopes were dashed when the third semi-final saw Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent finish third with a time of 12.44 seconds and France’s Cyrena Samba-Mayela place fourth with 12.52 seconds, both posting faster times and securing the final qualification spots.
Amusan, who captured global attention by setting a new world record of 12.12 seconds at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, now sees her quest for an Olympic medal come to an end in her third appearance at the Games. This result leaves Nigeria facing the possibility of leaving Paris without a medal as the Olympics draw to a close on Sunday.
