Nigerian Afrobeats icon Tiwa Savage has disclosed that she has frozen her eggs as a proactive measure for the future, encouraging women over 30 to consider doing the same.
In a frank conversation with media personality Zeze Mills, the 42-year-old explained that the decision was about keeping the option open to have more children later, even though she is currently unsure about expanding her family.
Savage, who became a mother for the first time in 2015 at age 34 with her ex-husband Teebillz, admitted she wishes she had taken this step earlier. She urged women in their 30s to take charge of their fertility by freezing their eggs.
“Having my first child in my 30s was beautiful because I was more financially and emotionally stable. One advice I will give to women in their 30s is, whether you want to have children or not, freeze your eggs,” she said.
Expanding on her point, Savage continued, “I wish I did it earlier. But I’ve done it now. I don’t know if I want more kids but in case I do, I’ve done that just to have that insurance. Because I don’t know if we are born with a certain amount of egg reserves, you could wake up at 36 and your egg reserve is done. And then that’s when you decide you want to have kids. So, I’m really a big advocate for egg freezing now.”
