Eyeshadow Colour
Eyes are considered to be the windows to the soul. It feels really good to improve their look with a dash of colour but so many women get it wrong. Do you sometimes wonder why a certain eyeshadow is not looking good on you? It might just be because the colour that you have chosen is just not right. People make this mistake often by using the same colour of eyeshadow as their clothes. You can choose a colour to compliment with the colour of your clothes but never match it entirely. Remember that the colours which suit others might not necessarily suit you. Eyeshadow colours should be chosen on these 3 criteria:
1. Eye Colour
2. Skin Tone
3. Hair Colour
Eye Colour
Contrary to the belief, you should never match your eyeshadow with the colour of your eyes. The general rules for choosing eyeshadow for different eye colours are-
Brown & Hazel eyes- Brown eyed people are pretty lucky in this regard as they can experiment with the most number of colours. From amber, slate grey, charcoal, copper to lavender, violet all suit brown eyes. Even eyeshadow shades like khaki, olive, dark brown and yellow shades like gold work well with brown eyes.
Blue eyes– Pink, orange, peach, purple, coral, wine, gray, black undertones tend to emphasize blue eyes more. Also silver eyeshadow works really well with blue eyes unlike with brown eyes. Avoid any eyeshadow with blue-green undertones.
Green eyes- Eyeshadow with red undertones like burgundy, maroon and colours like apricot, peach, plum, gray pops out and compliments the green of the eyes more than any other colours.
Skin Tone
Skin tones are usually categorized into warm skin tone & cool skin tone. Most Africans fall into the warmer skin tone category. Warmer skin tones have yellow or golden undertones whereas cool skin tones have blue or pink undertones.
If you have warm skin, try colours like bronze, ivory, taupe, light brown, pink, soft green, and coral. If you have cool skin tones you should experiment more with silver, pale blue, lilac, teal, dark green, turquoise, and gray .
Hair Colour
Black/Brown– Again dark haired women have an advantage as most of the eyeshadow colours suit them. From dark colours like black, browns, purples to neutrals like gold, beige to lighter shades of green, yellow all work well with brunettes.
If you have dark skin:
Avoid Ashy Shades. Ashy or white shadows can appear dull (or even invisible) on darker skin, stick with more vibrant hues which will tone down when actually on your skin.
Go Deep. Soft shades will fade away on darker skin (great for a natural look, not so great if you’re looking to make a statement). If you want your eyeshadow to stand out, stick with warm shades rich in pigment, like metallic golds and purple berries.
The most important thing with wearing eyeshadow, as with anything in life, is to be confident and comfortable with your choice.
