The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has expressed his thoughts on the debates that imply Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, may not be inaugurated due to opposition party arguments.
According to the Daily Trust, the Sultan stated on Wednesday, May 17, that President Muhammadu Buhari will give over power to the next administration on May 29, “whether they like it or not.”
Abubakar asked Nigerians to pray for the new administration to succeed in governing the country’s affairs at a roundtable meeting with traditional and religious leaders in Abuja.
The World Bank organized the seminar to map out strategies for increasing human capital development in Nigeria, particularly female child education.
The Sultan then asked traditional and religious authorities not to stop their campaign to prevent child marriage and other vices that stifle girls’ growth in their society.
Abubakar said:
“There must be change because, in the next few days or weeks, there will be a new government. What can we contribute to that government to stabilise?”
The Sultan also tasked the attendees to think outside the box after May 29 to move the country forward.
He said:
“Whether anybody likes it, it must take place. A new government is coming on 29 May, so what can we do besides prayers because we believe in the Almighty? We believe in God, that gives and takes.”
