President Bola Tinubu will not be attending the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York this year.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President, Bayo Onanuga, it was revealed that Tinubu has assigned Vice President Kashim Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the event.
The statement explained that after returning from recent trips to China and the UK, Tinubu intends to focus on domestic matters, particularly addressing challenges such as the recent devastating floods.
At UNGA 79, Vice President Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national address, participate in key sideline events, and engage in bilateral meetings.
The assembly is scheduled to run from Tuesday, September 24 to Saturday, September 28, 2024, under the theme, ‘Leaving no one behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations’.
