President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to travel to France on Monday, August 19, departing from Abuja for a short working visit, as announced by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale. The president is expected to return to Nigeria shortly after completing his engagements in France.
This trip follows Tinubu’s recent return from Guinea, marking the seventh African country and the 22nd international destination he has visited since taking office roughly 15 months ago. Tinubu’s travels have included multiple visits to Paris, France (three times), London, UK (twice), Bissau, Guinea-Bissau (twice), as well as trips to Nairobi, Kenya; Porto-Novo, Benin Republic; Pretoria, South Africa; Accra, Ghana; New Delhi, India; Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the UAE; New York, USA; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (twice); Berlin, Germany; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Dakar, Senegal; and Doha, Qatar.
This upcoming visit will add to the president’s frequent trips to France since he assumed office in May 2023. Notably, in June 2023, President Tinubu joined global leaders in Paris to sign the New Global Financial Pact, which prioritizes support and investment for vulnerable nations facing the adverse effects of climate change, the energy crisis, and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.
During that two-day summit, discussions focused on restoring fiscal stability for financially strained nations, exploring innovative financing for countries most affected by climate change, promoting development in low-income regions, and encouraging investment in green infrastructure to support energy transitions in developing economies.
