President Bola Tinubu has sent a special envoy, Dr. Abiodun Essiet, to Plateau State to help rebuild peace and strengthen relations among the state’s various communities.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Essiet, who serves as the Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement for the North Central region, has already spent two days in Plateau. During her visit, she engaged with Christian leaders, Fulani Miyetti Allah representatives, and other key groups. These efforts led to a town hall meeting in Jos, where traditional rulers, youth groups, women leaders, and delegates from several LGAs discussed new ways to reinforce community-level peace and encourage unity.
She also met Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, Chairman of the Regional Church Council in Barkin Ladi, where they spoke about the role of religious leadership in promoting peace, unity, and development. Essiet addressed widows as well, delivering the President’s message on the importance of restoring ethnic harmony in the state. Dachomo is known as one of the strongest advocates for Christian communities in Plateau.
According to the statement, “Essiet also met with Fulani leaders in Barkin Ladi to foster dialogue and mutual understanding between pastoral and farming communities, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive engagement.”
She later held a workshop in Jos focused on creating a community peace system for all 17 LGAs.
Another closed-door session brought together the Irigwe community, the Miyetti Allah group, and representatives of the Bassa LGA Youth Council. Discussions revolved around sustaining peace and how the existing 17-member peace committee can enhance ongoing dialogue, reconciliation, and cooperation between both sides.
Essiet also reaffirmed Tinubu’s commitment to peace and inclusive governance, stressing that community-based peace structures are essential for unity, dialogue, and long-term stability across the North Central region.
