President Bola Tinubu has asserted that Nigeria will not bow to pressure, despite growing global outcry over alleged genocide against Christians in the country.
The President made this known in a post on his official X account on Friday, shortly after United States President Donald Trump warned of possible military intervention over alleged attacks targeting Christians in Nigeria.
Tinubu noted that Nigeria will continue to engage the international community with maturity, confidence, and a clear sense of direction.
Addressing ongoing security concerns, the President acknowledged that the nation has been battling terrorism for several years but assured citizens that the government is fully committed to ending it.
“We are indeed faced with terrorism — a challenge Nigeria has faced for almost two decades, and we will not back down. We will decisively defeat terrorism and claim victory in this battle.
“Security is non-negotiable, and we will never compromise on this principle. With unwavering courage and a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, we will prevail,” he said.
Tinubu reiterated that protecting Nigeria remains a top priority, stressing that every necessary measure will be implemented to secure lives and property.
He also called on Nigeria’s global allies to maintain their support, adding that continued partnership is vital to sustaining current gains.
The development follows remarks by US President Donald Trump, who said he had instructed the Defence Department to begin preparations for potential military action in Nigeria if the government “continues to allow the killing of Christians”.
Earlier, Trump had classified Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) in response to claims of widespread persecution and genocide against Christian citizens.
