President Bola Tinubu has implemented major changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, marking a significant reshuffle aimed at reinforcing the nation’s defence structure.
The announcement was made in a statement released by Mr. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.
New Service Chiefs Named
According to the statement, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
Major-General W. Shaibu now serves as the Chief of Army Staff, while Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke takes over as Chief of Air Staff. In the Navy, Rear Admiral I. Abbas has been named the new Chief of Naval Staff.
The current Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, will continue in his role.
President Commends Outgoing Service Chiefs
President Tinubu praised the outgoing military chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership” throughout their time in office.
He urged the new appointees to live up to expectations and uphold the highest standards of integrity, discipline, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The President further stressed that the military must remain vigilant and united in tackling the country’s evolving security threats.
Appointments Effective Immediately
The statement confirmed that the new appointments take effect immediately.
Political observers interpret this move as part of Tinubu’s broader plan to fortify Nigeria’s security framework and improve synergy among the various branches of the armed forces.
