President Bola Tinubu has named Abdullahi Usman as the new chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), according to a statement released by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale on Monday. The appointment is pending Senate confirmation.
The statement highlighted Usman’s strong academic background, noting his qualifications from the University of Madinah and Peshawar University in Pakistan. Additionally, Usman has extensive experience in Hajj operations, having previously served as the chairman of the Kano State Pilgrims Board, where he managed the country’s largest quota of state pilgrims.
The President urged Usman to carry out his responsibilities with integrity, transparency, and dedication to the nation.
Usman succeeds Jalal Arabi, who was the former chairman of NAHCON. Arabi is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over allegations of mismanaging the N90 billion presidential subsidy for the 2024 Hajj.
