Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has praised Nigeria’s 36 state governors for their stances on the naira and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s cashless policy.
Tinubu claimed that the governors supported the people in their opposition to the policy that has caused pain and hardship for the poor Nigerians.
Bayo Onanuga, the media director of the APC presidential campaign council, revealed the presidential candidate’s position on Wednesday, February 8.
According to the statement, the APC governors who have spoken out against the policy and filed a lawsuit against the CBN and the federal government in front of the Supreme Court have done so on behalf of helpless Nigerians.
Tinubu claimed that the good naira redesign policy had been poorly implemented, causing pain to the poor masses.
The governments of Zamfara, Kaduna, and Kogi states have petitioned the Supreme Court for an interim injunction against the CBN and the federal government to allow the old N200, N500, and N1000 notes to remain legal tender until further notice.
The statement reads in part:
“Our country was dangerously careering toward anarchy and political and economic shutdown. But with the Supreme Court interim ruling our country has been pulled back from the precipice. We thank our Supreme Court Justices for ruling wisely on the side of the people who have been subjected to undue agony and pains since this policy was announced.”
