Billionaire Italian-Nigerian Gabriele Volpi and his son Matteo are engaged in a terrible conflict.
They are both involved in a bitter court dispute that has split the family apart and caused extreme animosity among the members.
Even while disputes between father and son are common, the one between Volpi and his first child is unusual in that it has stunned courts, destroyed the two men’s relationship as father and son, and is still raging in Nigeria, the Bahamas, the United Kingdom, and Malta.
The two fighters are not changing positions at this time, and they seem determined to keep fighting until one of them dies, gives up, or is subdued.
Around the same time that Volpi was divorcing his wife, his relationship with his oldest son started to deteriorate. Matteo finally quit the company and engaged in a full-scale conflict with his father for control of the vast family’s assets. After continuously quarrelling with his father over the management of various firms in the group without the correct governance as needed by law, Matteo said he was forced to leave the family business.
Premium Times learned that Matteo sided with his mother and was resentful toward his father when Volpi’s marriage to Rosaria ended.
After learning that Volpi had taken full control of the family’s multibillion-dollar fortune by unilaterally dissolving three Bahamian trusts holding the assets through convoluted layers of offshore entities, Matteo drew the battle lines with Volpi soon after leaving the family business to strike out on his own.
