The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) is demanding the prompt arrest and public trial of a Muslim cleric who allegedly incited violence by advocating for the killing of Nigeria’s First Lady, Remi Tinubu, based on her Christian faith. The group made this demand during its 2024 National Prayer Day and National Executive Council meeting in Abuja. YOWICAN emphasized the need for the government to address pressing economic issues such as hunger and unemployment. Additionally, they urged authorities to take swift action to prevent further security challenges arising from such inflammatory statements. In response to the cleric’s apology, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, a lawmaker, expressed dissatisfaction, suggesting that the cleric’s apology was inadequate, and he should face legal consequences for his remarks.
