The N200 million that Senate President Godswill Akpabio contributed to former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to aid in his 2015 election campaign has been made public.
According to Voice of Nigeria, Wike stated that Akpabio gave N200 million to assist his bid for governor in 2015 during a thanksgiving event on June 18 in Port Harcourt.
The former governor said that this was the reason he backed Akpabio’s bid to become the 10th National Assembly’s senate president.
“When I was running in 2014 and 2015, he came out and supported me. He gave me N200 million for that election. That is why I said one good turn deserves another. I supported him this time and I thank God he won,”
Wike said at the thanksgiving service.
According to PM News, Akpabio responded by stating that the N200 million he handed to Wike in 2015 did not come from the funds of the state of Akwa Ibom, where he was the governor at the time.
According to the Senate President, Wike received the N200 million he handed him in 2015 from money he had amassed while working as a managing director in the telecom industry, where he had been before becoming governor.
