On Wednesday, January 25, the Senate observed a minute of silence in memory of Father Isaac Achi, a Catholic priest who was burned to death in Niger state.
According to The Nation, suspected bandits recently burned the cleric to death in Niger state’s Paikoro local government area.
Senator Sani Musa moved a motion to consider the honour over the heartless killing of the religious leader during a plenary on the floor, and the senate passed the resolution.
Musa is a member of the All Progressives Congress and represents the Niger East senatorial district (APC).
The red chamber also expressed condolences to the family of the slain Bishop of Minna Diocese.
Achi was the Kafin Koro Deanery of the Minna Diocese of Niger State prior to his death. He was also the parish priest at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kafin Koro.
The award will be the first of its kind since the cleric was assassinated on January 15.
According to Business Day, Pope Francis, the Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church, has urged the entire world to pray for the slain priest.
The Pope claimed that many Christians in Nigeria continue to face violence and that they should continue to pray for them.
