The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, has been hospitalized in Imo State after a severe beating, as reported by a high-ranking official from the Labor Union. The NLC’s Head of Information and Publicity, Comrade Benson Upah, mentioned that Ajaero’s right eye was completely closed when they made contact.
According to Upah, Ajaero was assaulted, blindfolded, and taken to an undisclosed location where he was subjected to brutal treatment. Moreover, his phones, money, and personal belongings were confiscated and have not been returned to him. Currently, Ajaero is receiving medical care at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri.
The update from Upah reads: “Contact has been made with Congress President, Comrade Joe Ajaero this evening around 15:30 hours at the Police Hospital in Owerri from where he was taken to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri where he is receiving medical attention.
“Thoroughly brutalized, his right eye at the time of contact was completely shut. Ajaero was beaten up blindfolded and taken to an unknown destination where more brutalisation took place, sometimes with bottles. His phones, money, and other personal effects were taken off him and have not been returned to him.”
Earlier, Naijalog reported Ajaero’s arrest during a protest in Imo State against the poor working conditions of state workers.
