The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, and his family members were rushed to the hospital on Wednesday evening after a fire broke out at his residence in Abuja. The Labour Party issued a statement claiming there was an assassination attempt on Abure’s life.
According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, Abure’s residence was “gutted by a mysterious fire which started a few minutes after 1am while Abure and his family were asleep.”
A family member narrated that they were woken up by neighbors and security personnel living in the compound. The statement revealed that “the entire family was trapped as the inferno had reached the staircase, making it impossible for Abure and his family to escape.”
However, it stated that “it took divine intervention for the national chairman and his family to escape after neighbors and security men gallantly pulled down one of the windows upstairs, making way for the family to escape.”
The fire service arrived shortly after Abure and his family were evacuated from the burning building. Abure and his family members were then rushed to a private hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment. The statement mentioned that their condition is stable.
