The military has cleared the embattled House Majority Leader who was caught on video firing an AK-47.

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has cleared Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the embattled majority leader of the House of Representatives who was caught in an emergency viral video carrying a gun.

According to the Guardian, the video was taken during the 3 Brigade Nigerian Army Training Exercise, and the lawmaker was invited as a special guest and fired the AK-47 rifle in the Falgore Forest.

Part of the statement reads:

“It is worthy to state that when senior citizens and special guests are invited for such exercises, they are accorded the honour to participate in the firing exercise as a ceremonial firing party. Ceremonial firing in such an exercise is the practice the world over.”
