The late Nollywood actress Cynthia Okere’s husband, Mr. Okechukwu Okereke, has admitted that his family is having trouble raising money for his late wife’s funeral service.
Remember how Clemson Cornel Nonyelu, also known as “Agbogidi,” and the late Cynthia Okereke were kidnapped by unidentified gunmen last year while they were filming in Enugu?
However, following a brief illness, the seasoned actress passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
Mr. Okechukwu Okereke, who bemoaned the Actor’s Guild of Nigeria’s failure to help his family, told Vanguard over the phone that he was the only one organizing his wife’s funeral rites with help from his son and that he was in desperate need of money to provide his wife with respectable funeral rites.
Mr. Okereke said his wife had been in and out of the hospital since being kidnapped and released last year, and that her premature death this month was due to the shock she suffered as a result.
The late actress begged the criminals to bring her HBP medication while they were in the kidnappers’ den, and they reluctantly complied, according to Agbogidi.
“The trauma entered after the kidnapping issue,” he remarked. They bound her legs, and she got a leg trouble. She was in excruciating pain when we rescued her from the kidnappers’ hideout, so we rushed her to the orthopaedic hospital, where it was revealed that the painkillers she had been taking had negatively impacted her stomach. From there, we once more transported her to a private hospital, where she completed the initial procedure and awaited the completion of a subsequent one before her medical professionals realized that it had harmed her heart.
He asserted that the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, had not yet distributed the monies it had raised for this purpose to the impacted families. A family member of Agbogidi also corroborated Mr. Okereke’s claim.
“I can attest to the fact that AGN has not yet handed my family any money, as you claim. My family contributed 50% of the kidnapping ransom, and Cynthia’s family contributed the other 50%.
A family member of Agbogidi claimed, “To date, we haven’t received anything from the leadership of the guild.
However, in response to the claim, a source from the Enugu State branch of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN, refuted the claim and insisted that the money had actually been given to the two families.
“You can believe whatever he says, but the truth is that we gave him the money in our office, not where he claims. If he claims that he didn’t receive the money, he is a flagrant liar, according to an AGN source.
Having gained notoriety for her part in the movie “King Jaja of Opobo,” which was released in 1998, Cynthia, who was born in 1960, made her acting debut.
As Sofia in the movie “Osofia in London,” which she co-starred in with Nkem Owoh, she also rose to recognition in the field.
In addition to these films, she also appeared in “Hidden Tears,” “Sound of Love,” “Coronation,” “Second Burial,” “Lion Finger,” and “Second Chance,” among others.
