The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in Nigeria has shut down 62 illegal degree-awarding institutions.
A bogus National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp was also shut down.
Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, the Chairman, made the disclosure on Tuesday at a Youth Dialogue on Corruption in Tertiary Institutions in Abuja.
Owasanoye, who was represented by Hannatu Mohammed, ICPC Board member in charge of youth, stated that the commission had prosecuted the perpetrators.
According to the chairman, no nation can develop beyond the level and quality of its education.
According to Owasanoye, the ICPC established anti-corruption vanguards in schools to advance the fight against corruption, particularly in tertiary institutions.
He claims that the vanguards give student members the ability to develop zero tolerance for corruption and instill behavioral change in their colleagues.
According to Owasanoye, the ICPC conducted a System Study and Review in the university system to identify activities that fueled corruption.
Bribery, gratification, sexual harassment and sexual inducement, examination malpractices, over-invoicing, and over-inflation of contract values were discovered in the study.
