Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has been reported dead at the age of 67 following an extended battle with Leukaemia. According to a family source, Akeredolu passed away in Lagos, and despite efforts to seek medical treatment abroad, he was managed by State House doctors until his death. Reports indicate that he died around 2 am on Wednesday in a German hospital, succumbing to leukaemia and prostate cancer that had left him incapacitated for several months. Akeredolu had returned to Nigeria in September after a three-month medical leave in Germany but remained in Ibadan instead of resuming office in Akure, prompting public outrage and calls for his resignation. In November, he took another leave and handed over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, following President Bola Tinubu’s directive. Aiyedatiwa has been serving as the acting Governor.
