Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has been re-elected as the Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) for a second term. Akinsanya was re-elected alongside Sulyman Ojora as Deputy Chairman, Mustapha Adekunle (Sego) as Treasurer, and 20 other executive members who were elected unopposed on Wednesday at the 10th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference held at the state union secretariat, Agege. The newly elected executives were sworn in by Adejare Kembi, Principal, Excel Practitioners, in the presence of the Acting National President of the union, Aliyu Issa Ore, former National Secretary Kabiru Ado Yau, and other officials from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Lagos State Public Relation Officer Comrade Ismail Adejumo, among others.
MC Oluomo expressed his appreciation to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Ore-led national union body, and other stakeholders for their support during the crisis. He commended the loyalty and perseverance of union members in the state and promised more assistance for them.
Representing the Governor, a Director in the State Ministry of Transportation, Lateef Tiamiyu, praised the union members for re-electing Akinsanya for a second term in office. Tiamiyu hailed Akinsanya’s exemplary leadership qualities and his ability to reform union activities in the state, saying that NURTW members no longer resort to violence to effect leadership change.
Eshomounu Itemoagbo, Controller, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Lagos Office, described Akinsanya as a leader who is moving in the right direction. He praised the Chairman’s employment of over 123 graduates to work in various units of the union, promising that the ministry would continue to partner with the Akinsanya-led union to ensure more people are employed in the union.
CP Idowu Owohunwa, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos Command, who was represented by CSP Olatunji Oladimeji, praised MC Oluomo for collaborating with the police force. He called for more collaboration between the police and the union.
