The celebration of the end of Ramadan, known as the Eid-el-Fitr, has led to a two-day public holiday announced by the federal government. The minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement through a statement by the ministry’s permanent secretary. The announcement was made when the Muslims in Nigeria were yet to be sure of the actual day for the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr. To mark the celebration, the federal government has approved Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 10, as public holidays. The message was conveyed through a statement by Aishetu Ndayako, the ministry’s permanent secretary, on Sunday, April 7. The minister congratulated Nigerian Muslims for completing the 2024 Ramadan successfully. He urged Muslims to maintain the practice and deeds that entail love, peace, kindness, compassion, tolerance, and good neighbourliness. The Islamic Council of Nigeria, under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, had yet to announce the citing of the moon to determine the actual day for the Eid-el-Fitr Celebration.
