As the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal prepares to issue its ruling in the lawsuits contesting the election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, political gladiators are under tension.
This message was sent to all parties on Saturday by the panel, which is chaired by Justice Arum Ashom.
According to Naija News, Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the March 18 governorship election is being contested by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, a candidate for the Labour Party, and Olajide Adediran, a popular figure known as Jandor, a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party.
The petitioners’ attorneys adopted their final written submissions to the tribunal on August 12.
The All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Sanwo-Olu was proclaimed the victor of the March 18 governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party finished second in the election, which was won by the incumbent governor of Lagos State by a wide margin.
Rhodes-Vivour received 312,329 votes, but Governor Sanwo-Olu received 762,134 votes to win. With 62,449 votes, PDP candidate Jide Adediran (Jandor) finished in a distant third place.
