A report by Daily Trust indicates that Kano’s index coronavirus case attended prayers at the popular Da’awah Juma’at Mosque on Friday, April 10, which is now become a serious concern to the state government officials.

Recall that the northern state confirmed its first case of coronavirus on Saturday, April 11, after a male victim was discovered on admission at a private clinic in Nassarawa GRA, Kano state.

A source at the clinic speaking to the newspaper publication said that all the staff and patients were evacuated and taken to one of the isolation centers in the state. It was also learned that some neighbours of the clinic were evacuated for medical examination.

A 75 year old former ambassador of the Federal Republic has been documented as the index case of COVID 19 in the state of Kano. Although he has no travel history outside the country, the former civil servant did return from Abuja on the eve of the state’s border closure.

The patient who has been identified as a 75-year-old former ambassador was said to have arrived in Kano from Lagos, where he may have likely contracted the virus.

A resident of the areas explained that his sister who was sent on an errand was not allowed entry into her family house.

Domestic workers and members of the victim’s immediate family at Giginyu quarters have been evacuated to an isolation center. There was tension and confusion in the community following the discovery of the patient in the area.

Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, the Kano commissioner for health, said health personnel was deployed by the state Task Force Committee on COVID-19 to the three identified areas where the patient visited prior to the confirmation for fumigation.

The three identified places where the patient visited include Giginyu Quarters, where he resides, Da’awah Juma’at Mosque, and the private clinic where he was admitted.
