Teni met Dende on a plane and immediately prostrated to greet him, but many Nigerians found this strange, particularly given Dende’s alleged involvement in criminal activity. Over the past few months, Fisayo Soyombo, an investigative reporter, has repeatedly accused Dende of smuggling and killing a customs official. Despite Dende’s denial of these accusations, Soyombo has continued to provide evidence to support his reports. As a result, many social media users are upset with Teni for associating with Dende despite the allegations against him.
