Actress Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, has opened up about why she decided to adopt her husband’s surname, Ajibade, after marrying Afrobeats star Mr Eazi.
In a recent interview with the BBC, Temi explained that taking her husband’s name was a personal and intentional choice. She emphasized that while the decision felt right for her, she fully supports other women choosing what works best for them.
“I’m now a married woman, the obvious thing for me is to take my husband’s name. But it’s my personal choice… I also respect a woman’s ability to choose,” she said.
Temi on privacy and storytelling
Temi highlighted the importance of maintaining privacy in her relationship, noting that keeping things low-profile allows her to control her own narrative and share personal moments on her own terms.
“Moving in silence allows you to build the story you want and share it when and how you’re ready,” she added.
Thoughts on her father’s memoir
Speaking on her father Femi Otedola’s newly released memoir, Temi described it as a powerful reflection of his decades-long entrepreneurial journey and the lessons he’s gathered along the way. She said while she has always benefited from his wisdom, the book now allows others to gain insight into his experiences.
Reflections on privilege and independence
Temi acknowledged her privileged upbringing but shared that her father intentionally kept his children separate from his business ventures. Though she initially felt disappointed, she later appreciated the decision as it motivated her to carve her own path and pursue her passions independently.
She credited her father’s resilience during challenging times as one of her biggest inspirations.
