A teenage girl was shot dead by her neighbour after she objected to him urinating near the gate of her family home.
Yusra Khan, 17, was gunned down by a 21-year-old man, who also broke into her home in New Delhi and left her mother Sadmani critically injured.
The teenager is believed to have argued with the man, who lives in the same building, after objecting to him urinating near to the gate of the house.
Delhi additional police commissioner Ajay Chaudhry told the BBC: “The man went back into the house saying ‘I’ll see you’ and came back to the girl’s apartment with a pistol and shot them.
“The girl is dead and her mother is injured.”
The man is believed to have fled through the narrow lanes of the neighbourhood, in the Nizamuddin district of the city, firing shots into the air as he ran.
The suspect is still on the run, but Mr Chaudhry added: “He is somewhere out there and we will get him.”
Yusra’s father said his daughter “died on the spot” while his 40-year-old wife continues to battle for life.
Police commissioner Chaudhry added that officers had not yet found any evidence of “any other dispute” between the man and the girl’s family.
