The Bauchi State Police Command has detained Adamu Ibrahim, a 15-year-old herder, for reportedly chopping off a farmer’s hand.
The victim and the suspect got into a confrontation over the latter’s farmland being invaded, Sunday PUNCH learned.
This was revealed in a statement released on Saturday by SP Ahmed Wakil, spokesperson for the police headquarters.
According to the statement, Adamu Ibrahim of the village of Jital on the Gombe Road in the state of Bauchi was detained for trespassing, making trouble, and inflicting great harm.
The defendant had repeatedly entered the victim’s farms while raising cows, according to the preliminary inquiry.
The sad situation came about as a result of the victim’s repeated complaints to the suspect’s father about the suspect’s intrusion into his rice farmland.According to the inquiry, the suspect broke into the victim’s property on August 24, 2023, armed with a stick and a machete, and purposefully damaged crops worth an unknown amount of money.Following an argument, the culprit stabbed the victim when he refused to leave his farms. The suspect pulled out a machete and severed the victim’s left hand.
The report went on to say, “Upon receiving this report, the Area Commander, Metropolitan, swung into action and activated more preventive measures to avoid situations that may lead to a herder-farmer clash in the area and equally directed the arrest of the suspect.”The patient is responding to therapy after being sent to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital in Bauchi.Therefore, Auwal Musa Mohammed, the state’s commissioner of police, issued a warning to herders not to enter farmlands and ordered that the suspect be charged once the covert investigation was over.
