A 17-year-old girl and her boyfriend have been arrested by the police in Ogun state, after the pair faked her kidnap to extort cash from her parent.
The two suspects, 17-year-old Seun Adekunle and her boyfriend 25-year-old, Basit Olasunkanmi, were nabbed by the police after a complaint was lodged by her mother.
The teenager’s mother, Bukky Adekunle, on June 4th reported at Enugada police division, that her daughter hasn’t returned home after being sent to the market three days back.
According to her, she received a call from someone two days later who claimed to have kidnapped the girl and demanding for the sum of N500,000 as ransom.
Bukky Adekunle also revealed that the caller warned her not to make the mistake of reporting to the police if she still needs her daughter alive.
However, a technical and intelligence based investigation led the police to the hideout where the girl and her boyfriend were hiding and pretending to be with kidnappers.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the boyfriend, who is a butcher, was the one who brainwashed the girl and lured her into the plan because he needed money.
