An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on Friday remanded a 30-year-old refrigerator repairer, Stanley Mbagwe, in prison for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl.

The magistrate, Mrs. B.O. Osunsanmi, ordered the accused to be remanded in Kirikiri Prisons and the case file sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Mbagwe, who resides in the Isolo area of Lagos, is facing a count charge of defilement, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

The prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 1, 2018, at the Ire-Akari area of the city.

He said that the accused had carnal knowledge of the girl when he went to repair a refrigerator at her parents’ house and discovered they were not at home.

“He took her into the room, removed her pants, had sexual intercourse with her and begged her not to tell anybody.

“Some neighbours, however, saw sperm coming out from her private parts of the girl and asked what had happened to her.

“She told them what transpired between her and the accused.”

Ayorinde said the girl’s parents reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested for questioning.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The case was adjourned until June 4, 2018.
