Actors Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel are ending their decade-long marriage.
“ Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel and have jointly decided to separate at this time,” reps for the couple told People magazine. “Their primary focus and concern is for their son. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”
The couple married in 2003, years after meeting on Broadway, and welcomed their son, Walker, in 2009.
“I’m loving it,” Diggs said of fatherhood then. “I miss him right now.”
Diggs, now 42, said that parenthood was so transformative that he looked forward to diaper duty.
“Let me tell you, his diapers are no joke,” he said. “I’m such a proud father that I’m like, ‘Good for you! Good for you little man!”
By earlier this year, however, the couple’s home life seemed decidedly less blissful. Menzel, also 42, told People that their marriage took work.
“I’m not going to glamorize it or glorify it. We go through tough times like everybody else, but we love each other very much,” she said. “We try not to be away from each other for more than two weeks at a time, and we try to find new ways to communicate.”
