Speculations are rife that the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Aminu Tambuwal,may decamp to the All Progressive Congress (APC) when the lower house resumes sitting Tuesday.
Against this backdrop, some PDP senators are already gunning for his seat. Those jostling for his seat are of the belief that the Speakership position is reserved for the PDP and that whenever the current speaker decamps from the PDP, he must step down from the seat.
Ahead of the commencement of legislative activities by members of the National Assembly and sequel to speculations that the House of Reps Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, is likely to defect to the All Progressives’ Congress, APC, many PDP lawmakers are already scheming for the seat.
The race by the PDP legislators to replace Tambuwal is based on the belief that the Speakership position is reserved for the PDP and that whenever the current speaker decamps from the PDP, he must step down from the seat.
Meanwhile the Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mohammed Zakari, while talking about the resumption of plenary, explained that the House will kick off with those bills that were pending.
Some of the pending bills billed for expedite consideration include Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB; Cybercrime Bill, Tobacco Bill, anti-Terrorism Bill and Asset Forfeiture Bill, Constitution review, respectively.
Speaking on some of the national issues, deputy chairman of House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Victor Ogene stated that various standing committees including Health and Education during the recess interfaced with major stakeholders were part of efforts towards resolving national crises.
He further disclosed that the Committee on Education will today, being Monday, meet with major stakeholders in the Education sector including Ibrahim Shekarau, Minister of Education; Onyebuchi Chukwu, Minister of Health and Emeka Wogu, Minister of Labour and Productivity.
