Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi may be facing possible disciplinary measures from the English Football Association following his goal celebration during their 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Awoniyi, who came on as a substitute, scored the third goal to secure an important victory for Forest in their bid to avoid relegation.
The 28-year-old was initially shown a yellow card for removing his shirt during the celebration. However, further action could be taken after he revealed an undershirt with the message “God is the greatest.”
According to Law 4 of the International Football Association Board, players are not allowed to display political, religious, or personal messages.
“Equipment must not have any political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images. Players must not reveal undergarments that show political, religious, personal slogans, statements or images, or advertising other than the manufacturer’s logo,” the regulation stated.
“For any offence the player and/or the team will be sanctioned by the competition organiser, national football association or by FIFA.”
