Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi Al-Jalali was seen on Sunday, December 8, escorted by rebel forces in Damascus, reportedly en route to a hotel to transfer governmental authority.
A video surfaced showing Al-Jalali surrounded by armed escorts as he descended steps and entered a black SUV alongside another individual.
In the footage, a voice can be heard saying, “The former prime minister is with the 5th Corps from the Hauran region, heading to the Four Seasons Hotel for a meeting to hand over the nation’s institutions to the heroes of the Free Army.”
Earlier, Al-Jalali released a statement expressing his commitment to maintaining the functionality of public institutions, state facilities, and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
On the same day, rebel forces officially declared the Syrian capital, Damascus, as “liberated” in a televised announcement broadcast on state TV.
Additional footage shared online showed armed fighters celebrating near a gatehouse on the southern perimeter of the Syrian presidential palace. The rebels were seen firing into the air in celebration as they stood in an otherwise empty entryway to the palace grounds.
