Nigeria recorded its first win in CHAN 2014 with a 4-2 win against Mozambique at the Cape Town Stadium in South Africa on Wednesday night.
A brace from Rabiu Ali and goals each from Ifeanyi Ede and substitute Barnabas Imenger were enough to see off Joao
Chisano’s team in a very lively contest.
The Mozambican’s got off to a flying start with a goal from their captain Dario Khan in the 10th minute.Nigeria gave a quick double salvo response through Ede who shot past Soarito and Ali who scored from long range to make the score 2-1.
A lapse of concentration from the Nigerian defence gave the Mozambicans a goal through Alberto Diogo.
Few minutes into the second half and Nigeria were leading again through Ali’s well taken penalty as Uzoenyi’s shot was
adjudged to have struck the arm of a Mozambican defender.
The Mozambican’s were given the final knockout two minutes from time through substitute Imenger who scored a deftly chipped goal over Soares.
Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying depends on the result against the
hosts on Sunday.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed for that game and enjoy this victory.Till then!
