The stand in captain and goalkeeper of the super eagles of Nigeria Vincent Enyeama who is set to feature in his 3rd world cup is certain the super eagles has what it takes to get as far as the semi finals when the tournament begins in Brazil next month.
The goalkeeper who had a very impressive season with his club Lille in France and helped them to seure the final champions league spot by finishing third and also won the Marc Vivian Foe award for the best African player in France will be hoping to replicate that if Nigeria hopes to get to the final four.
Nigeria best perfomance in the world cup was in 1994 and 1998 where it gets to the world cup round of 16 but have been knocked out in the group stage in the next in world cup it participated. Grouped alongside Argentina, Iran and Bosnia and Hezegovina in Group F
The veteran goalkeeper first made his debut at the world cup when he made a surprise appearance in final group game against the three lions of England, Although Nigeria had already been knocked out but the then 19year old goalkeeper gave a very impressive perfomance and he has not decimated since then.
In an exclusive interview with FIFA.com, “I think we are going to make big progress,” Enyeama said “We are focused on the World Cup, to make Africa the proudest continent. Ghana almost reached the semi-finals four years ago. We are going to achieve a better result and be the first African team to get to the semi-finals of the World Cup.”
Enyeama also talked about the possibility of Nigeria facing France in the second round if Nigeria qualifies and described it as interesting but the most important thing on the goalkeeper’s mind his Nigerian to qualify.He said further “Playing France for a place in the last eight is not really what matters to me right now, I just want the team to make it to the second round. But maybe we will come out first, and then we will not have to play against France.”
The dependable goalkeeper was voted as the best goalkeeper in France and made the best eleven players in the just concluded season.
