Norwich have confirmed the loan signing of Fenerbahce defender Joseph Yobo.
Posting confirmation of the move on Twitter on Thursday evening, the Canaries tweeted: ‘Norwich can confirm the loan signing of Joseph Yobo from Fenerbahce until the end of the season, subject to governing body approval.’
MTNFootball.com quoted Fenerbahçe as saying in a statement to the stock market: “Our talent Michael Joseph Yobo temporary transfer until the end of the 2013-2014 season for Norwich City FC.”
Norwich manager Chris Hughton has been looking to add to his squad following the loan signing of midfielder Jonas Gutierrez from Newcastle.
The Canaries – whose ill-tempered 0-0 draw against the Magpies on Tuesday night left them in 12th place, five points above the drop zone – have also been linked with Blackburn centre-back Scott Dann as well as Newcastle’s Steven Taylor and Lazio’s Michael Ciani.
Several other media reports also said Yobo will return to England to feature for Norwich City till the end of the season and he will earn about 800,000 Euros.
He is expected to travel to England to join his new team this weekend before Sunday’s transfer deadline.
The 33-year-old left Everton in August 2012 and played against Arsenal in their Champions League qualifier in August, but is now set for a return to the Barclays Premier League to help boost the Canaries’ bid to retain their top-flight status.
