The Group General Manger (Public Affairs) of NNPC, Dr. Levi Ajuonuma has warned users of kerosene to desist from buying the commodity from road side hawkers, to avoid purchasing adulterated product that can lead to explosion.

He gave this warning on Friday in Abuja in an interview. Emphatically stressing “We want to appeal to Nigerians to ensure they buy the product (kerosene) from designated outlets and filling stations to avoid adulterated product that could lead to explosion,” he said.

He gave the assurance that the kerosene imported into the country was of high quality and standard, and that any case of explosion might be an isolated case as a result of adulteration by hawkers.

He said the NNPC would intensify its partnership with the Department of Petroleum Resources and security operatives to mitigate the menace.

The NNPC spokesman reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government towards ensuring adequate supply of the product across the country.

Reports of pockets of domestic explosions as a result of adulterated kerosene in the FCT and some parts of the country have been occurring.

Kerosene is the most used form of fuel in Nigeria, it is used for cooking, to light lanterns and local lamps due to the failure of NEPA cum PHCN to supply electricity regularly and it is sometimes used in the aviation industry.
