Tragedy struck at a children’s party organized by Prophetess Naomi Silekunola Ogunswusi, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
Queen Naomi, who had recently celebrated her son’s fourth birthday, hosted the event at Islamic High School Bashorun, Ibadan, Oyo State. Speaking on Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Ibadan, she shared plans to distribute gifts and sponsor participants.
The queen, who recently reunited with the Ooni of Ife, assured parents that security measures were in place for the event. However, reports indicate that the turnout far exceeded expectations, with attendance nearly tripling the anticipated number.
The party, intended to cater to about 50 children aged 0 to 13 across Oyo State, turned tragic when a stampede allegedly broke out as children rushed to receive gifts from the organizers.
Many children were reportedly injured, and it is alleged that one child lost their life in the chaos.
According to The Nation, the Oyo State Police Command has confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway.
